Allta Restaurant in Dublin has launched a subscription service that will allow customers to sign up for weekly food delivery, some of which will require cooking or finishing at home. The offer is posted on allta.ie at noon on Saturday and the first batch will be shipped next week.

Boxes cost € 55 each, per week, including nationwide courier delivery, and subscriptions can last between two and five weeks. The boxes will contain sourdough bread and shiitake miso butter; homemade cold meats and pickles; two different pastas and sauces (enough for two to share); dessert and a batch of ready-to-bake cookie dough. They can be ordered between Saturday noon and Sunday midnight, and will be delivered on Thursday or Friday of each week.

“Rather than a take-out, we decided to do a home delivery service. In this way, the guest gets involved in a sweet little kitchen and can also choose how they enjoy the allta Box – either all together or spread over a few different meals – while we occupy ourselves and experiment with new combinations and novelties. dishes, ”explains chef Niall Davidson.

The food will be prepared by Davidson, along with fellow chefs Hugh Higgins and Kevin Burke, and the menu will change weekly. “We have an amazing pantry, and the subscription model means we can plan ahead,” Davidson says.

Supply is capped at 100 boxes per week, to allow chefs to comply with coronavirus health and safety regulations. Only two of the three chefs will be on duty at the same time, and they will each undergo a temperature check before starting work.

A sample box may include ventricina deli meats and pickles from McNally’s farm; Comeragh mountain lamb, seaweed pappardelle and Cáis ná Tire; broccoli sopressini, pumpkin seaweed miso, gremolata; Velvet Cloud Sheep Yogurt Mousse and Ryan’s Rhubarb Jelly; oatmeal pecan cookie dough.

Catherine Cleary, reviewing Allta in January, described it as “a new unpretentious wine bar with delicious food”, with “accomplished cooking”.

Other restaurants that have adopted a door-to-door delivery or collection model include Liath in Blackrock; The Butcher Grill in Ranelagh, Gourmet Burgers BuJo in Sandymount and Platform Pizza in Bray.

Michelin-starred Liath offers a two-course meal for two, with reheating and assembly required. The Butcher Grill sells prime rib, chateaubriand or strip loin lunch boxes to cook from scratch, with side orders to reheat and desserts.

The Bujo burger restaurant has created a delivery box containing burgers, brioches, sauces and toppings, ready to cook. The Platform Pizza Box contains everything you need to make five pizzas. It is distributed by TricksUNeed, a new online shopping and delivery portal operating in Dublin.
