David Oglesby, a beloved manager of the Union Kitchen’s Katy location, has died after contracting the COVID-19 virus. He was 60 years old.
Oglesby died on February 19, after a lengthy hospital stay while battling the pneumonia he developed after testing positive for the new coronavirus. He was admitted to hospital after developing pneumonia linked to the virus, according to a statement released by the restaurant. “David Oglesby was a valued employee and more than that, a great friend of staff and managers,” said Paul Miller, owner of Gr8 Plate Hospitality. “I’ve never seen him once without a smile on his face. We will miss him.”
Union Kitchen staff established a GoFundMe account to help Oglesby’s family during this time. Husband of Denise Oglesby and a father of two, Oglesby has been described as a “fighter”, “courageous”, “loyal”, “loving” and “strong” by his wife. “We will miss you very much and I am so proud of you,” she said via the GoFundMe page.
At the time of going to press, GoFundMe has raised $ 2,650 of its goal of $ 25,000.
