By Denis Sheehan, Editor, H&C News: The Institute of Hospitality announces the UK Restaurant Manager of the Year 2022.
Abigail Clark of Charlie’s at Brown’s Hotel has been crowned Institute of Hospitality UK Restaurant Manager of the Year 2022, held at the Hotel Cafe Royal on Tuesday.
The Restaurant Manager of the Year award is now in its twelfth year, recognizing the best in the industry and is open to restaurant managers of all types of operations. This year was “exceptional” according to the jury, which had difficulty choosing the winner.
The finalists took part in an intense day of testing and battled all day to claim the prestigious 2022 title.
Performing at their best were:
- Alexandros Kaloudas MIH from the Hilton London Bankside.
- Gianluca Austin-Rizzo of The Simpsons Restaurant, Birmingham.
- Raminta Mackeviciute of Ivy Cobham Brewery, Surrey.
- Jacob Pinder of the Hotel Café Royal in London.
- James Brackley MIH of the South Lodge Hotel.
- Abigail Clark of Charlie’s at the Browns Hotel.
- Galvin’s Antonino Forte MIH at Windows, Hilton Park Lane.
- Pan Pacific’s Andrea Caldelari.
- Marco Mammone of Cameron House.
- George Young of Dakota Hotels.
The hard-fought day ended with the finalist performing a final test in front of a specially invited VIP audience before Sarah Peters MIH IoH Head of Commercial & Events took the stage for a lively and incredibly entertaining panel discussion.
Cyrus Todiwala MBE FIH, Pervin Todiwala FIH and the first ever RMOY winner, Peter Avis FIH were on the hot seat to reminisce about hilarious past experiences and insights.
To thunderous applause, Abigail was crowned IoH UK Restaurant Manager of the Year 2022 during the brilliant reception of the winners. And as a double celebration, she announced that it was also her birthday! What an amazing end to a perfect day. James Brackley MIH of South Lodge Hotel was named a finalist.
Speaking at the event, Robert Richardson FIH, CEO of IoH, said: “If proof were ever needed how highly skilled our industry is, how dedicated our extended host family, passionate and talented, so our 2022 Restaurant Manager of the Year competition captured that perfectly. We crowned an incredible winner and runner-up live on stage tonight. Everyone who made it to the final is a winner, and our industry is much better for the shining examples they set. For Abigail, winning on her birthday and on the eve of International Women’s Day couldn’t have been more perfect.

Entries for the 2023 Restaurant Manager of the Year will open later this year.
