The owner of a popular Cheshire cafe says rising energy prices have forced him to stop there – closing his business to run a Crewe pub.
Minshull’s Country Kitchen on Welles Street, Sandbach closes this Friday (August 19) – eight years after it opened.
Company owner Paul Minshull says he can’t risk continuing to operate with rising energy prices.
Mr Minshull now holds a post at the White Lion, Warmingham Road, as a restaurant manager.
The 30-year-old went to Sandbach School and has been a chef and cook all his life.
He started his passion for making food at an early age.
Mr Minshull told Nub News: “Energy prices are rising and I just can’t afford to keep going. It’s taking a toll on my health and I need a fresh start.
“I refuse to raise prices to charge customers. It’s just not fair. My electricity goes from around £450/£500 a month to £900 in October.
“In January it would possibly go back up to £1,500 and I just can’t afford it. I expect more businesses to face the same problem.
Paul Minshull says he prefers to have happy memories of his company (Nub News).
“I want to leave the company on a good note and remember the good times.
“It’s a sad decision, but I just can’t go on. We’ve had two lockdowns and I can see a recession coming. It’s tough for businesses.
“I will miss my customers and my staff, but it was a decision that I unfortunately had to make.”
The new restaurant manager Crewe’s family remember him cooking, enjoying cooking and following recipes as a child.
The White Lion has a beer garden and a sports-themed bar with a pool table, darts board and large-screen flash TV (The White Lion).
He admits he will be sad to see business continue, but looks forward to a new challenge.
Mr Minshull added: “We’re going to set up balloons and make it a great week. It’s like a big family and Friday is going to be a really emotional day for me.”
Minshull’s Country Kitchen has built a good reputation in the city and Paul’s customers say they will miss the coffee.
Mr Minshull will run a pub which has recently refurbished its lounge.
The White Lion, Warmingham Road, is open daily from midday. It serves food everyday (The White Lion).
