Irving-based Mediterranean chain Shawarma Press is beginning rapid statewide expansion, starting with a location at a Walmart store in San Antonio.
The quick and casual outfit serves up appetizers, salads, wraps and pastries as well as its eponymous dish, shawarma – thin slices of chicken or beef roasted slowly in gravy on a roasting pan.
As part of the rollout, Shawarma Press will take over restaurants at Walmart stores across the state, including stores in Arlington, Plano and Georgetown, according to a press release. The first location is now open at a Walmart in Alamo City, although the release does not include its address.

Shawarma Press uses 100% natural chicken and beef raised without hormones, steroids or antibiotics and all proteins are humanely handled in accordance with Halal guidelines, which state that meats are prepared in accordance with Islamic law, according to its release.
