TikTok just announced the opening of a restaurant chain – Eat this, not that

Call it life by imitating art, or something close to it. What started as viral recipe videos inspiring hordes of social media users to experiment in their own kitchens has now translated into a whole new chain of restaurants.

According to Business intern, the video-sharing platform TikTok plans to open a number of ghost kitchens across the United States in the coming months under the name TikTok Kitchens. The virtual restaurant chain will serve up TikTok’s biggest culinary hits, which means you can now try these irresistible concoctions without setting foot in a kitchen – instead, they’ll be prepared by professional chefs.

You’ve probably seen some of the most ubiquitous TikTok viral food videos – you might have even concocted a few yourself. There was the feta baked pasta which caused a cheese shortage in Finland, the corn ribs and pasta chips which racked up millions of likes, and so on. All of these will appear in the TikTok Kitchens menu. However, this is only the beginning – the company has said offers will change seasonally and according to trends.

Always enterprising, TikTok has harnessed the popularity of viral food videos and turned them into a restaurant-only delivery business. But the platform said the proceeds from the sales will be used to support the creators of their #FoodTok content (although it’s unclear exactly how it will be used.)

As of now, we know that the platform plans to open 300 Ghost Kitchen locations by March and up to 1,000 locations by the end of 2022. Those kitchens will operate from other locations. National restaurant chains like Buca di Beppo and Bertucci’s, and other restaurants across the country can apply to welcome the TikTok Kitchens brand into their establishment.

TikTok has partnered with Virtual Dining Concepts, a company specializing in the development of virtual restaurants, in this venture. Regarding deliveries, GrubHub will be the main delivery partner of the concept.
