The manager of a restaurant in Birmingham has responded to a diner who said their tapas were ‘too expensive’ for ‘tiny portions’. The customer who visited Tapas Revolution Birmingham in Grand Central said he preferred to eat a pie.
They took to Tripadvisor to claim that the food was served in small portions and was “overpriced” for what it was. The reviewer, named Zelda from the Nuneaton region, also urged others not to “waste your money on a glass of weak sangria”.
Tapas Revolution Birmingham has a rating of 5 on the popular travel website – with nearly 3,500 reviews. It also received a Travellers’ Choice Award last year.

The restaurant regularly receives rave reviews from customers – including one just a few days ago saying it offers “fantastic service and authentic cuisine”. Others have praised the restaurant staff.
But Zelda shared her negative thoughts from her visit in January this year in a short review on Tripadvisor. She said: “Too expensive for what you get tiny portions.
“Don’t waste your money on a glass of weak £5.95 ‘sangria’. Have a much better and tastier pie instead.”
But the general manager of Tapas Revolution Birmingham decided to respond to the negative reviews – saying ‘prices in the city center are what they are I’m afraid.’. And in their smart response they also added “really sure we’re not a place that could and will meet your expectations”.
Their full response read, “Dear Zelda. Thank you for taking the time to write this review.
“Prices in the city center are what they are I’m afraid. Coffee will cost you between £2.50 and £3.50 in self-service shops and £5.95 in a restaurant in full service for an alcoholic drink or cocktail is pretty cheap to be honest.
“But if you prefer a pie, then I’m really sure we’re not a place that could and would meet your expectations. Thanks again and have a great day.”
Tapas Revolution Birmingham has 3,496 reviews on Tripadvisor, of which more than 2,650 are rated “excellent”. Earlier this month, Susannah said: “A little gem in a train station. The food here is always fantastic and easily matches the tapas you find in Barcelona.
“The staff are incredibly friendly and always helpful and enthusiastic when I try to practice my Spanish! An absolute must when visiting Birmingham.”
Another guest said, “All the staff were very friendly and looked after my allergy well. The food was also very good and great value for money!”
And Dawn said after her visit in March: “We had a lovely lunch served by Katerina. She took her time to explain the dishes to us and help us choose.
“She was polite and friendly and didn’t rush us. She went above and beyond!! The food was served hot and tasted amazing.”
